This fellow is found at the Ananda Cottages in Ubud. Clare Ann is in the background getting the meeting space ready.
The Ananda Cottages are more or less like this one with a thatched roof. The downstairs has an open-air bathroom and the upstairs an open ceiling.
The traditional Balinese doorways are a challenge to get through with luggage.
Lying in bed on the upper floor you see this ceiling.
Ducks are used for weeding rice paddies. The Ananda Cottages are in the middle of rice paddies, so you see the duck herders going by, with their ducks in a row.
The justly-famous Kuta Beach on Bali. This photo is from the Dhyana Pura Hotel in Seminyak looking toward the town of Kuta Beach. The tide is out, so the gently-sloping beach is quite wide. The breakers are about six feet on this day. Notice how few people there are. Indonesia's recent reputation for civil disturbances has really hurt tourism here, even though Bali has been spared any significant unrest.
Shopping is a big attraction in Bali. Clare Ann bought a set of woven place mats from these folks in Ubud after a lengthy process of bargaining. As we walked down the street with the bag every shop we passed offered to beat the price. So buy one then use it to get a better price down the street. Things are so cheap now with the Rupiah low that it is a bit embarrassing to bargain at all.
